Minutes Union Station -Spruce Street Parking Lot Committee Greater Hartford Transit District Hartford, CT January 30, 2008 Russell St. John, Committee Chair Mr. St. John declared the Public Hearing of the Spruce Street Parking Lot Committee of the Greater Hartford Transit District (the “District”) to order at 4:02 p.m. in the Greater Hartford Transit District's Multipurpose Room at Union Station, One Union Place, Hartford, CT. The Committee members present were; Russell St. John, Marilyn Pet, and William Hall. Also present representing the Greater Hartford Transit District staff were Vicki L. Shotland, Executive Director and DJ Gonzalez, Operations Administrator. There were no members of the public in attendance. Mr. St. John stated for the record that the Committee was empowered to consider adopting a proposed short-term parking rate of fifty cents ($.50) for any vehicle parked for thirty (30) minutes or less in the Spruce Street Parking Lot. The Chair asked if there were any members of the public who wished to be heard. There were none. He then asked for comments from the Committee Members. Each member expressed their opinion and believed that the long term affect for the District would be positive. The Chair closed the public hearing at 4:17 pm and immediately opened the Regular Meeting at 4:18 pm. After a brief discussion Mr. Hall made a motion to adopt the proposed short-term parking rate of fifty cents ($.50) for any vehicle parked for thirty (30) minutes or less in the Spruce Street Parking to become effective April 1, 2008. This motion was seconded by Ms. Pet and unanimously approved by all three Committee members. Mr. St. John asked if there was any other business to be brought before the Committee. Mr. Hall requested that we look into advertising the lot more aggressively through various means and Ms. Pet asked about current software and hardware initiatives. A final discussion ensued regarding cars parked for extended periods of time, lost revenue, and creating regulations for parkers. Each item raised will be looked into by District staff and discussed at the next Spruce Street Parking Lot Committee Meeting. Mr. St. John would also like to place on the agenda for the next meeting discussion on performance of the current management company and their contract with the District. There being no further business brought before the Panel, Mr. Hall moved that the Meeting be adjourned. Upon seconding by Ms. Pet, the motion passed by a unanimous vote and the Meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
