This project will provide a viable, convenient, centrally-located terminus and transfer station for CTTransit local and express buses, Greater Hartford Transit District s ADA Paratransit and demand response services, local Dial-A-Ride Services, intercity bus, and taxis, with improved pedestrian and bicycle access. The facility will also accommodate bus bays for transit vehicles and park-and-ride parking spaces for commuters. The proposed Enfield Transportation Center will be built so as not to preclude future use by the proposed Springfield to New Haven Commuter Rail. The Enfield Intermodal Center will provide transit-related amenities for passengers to the facility. The site will have a passenger waiting area; a transit informational kiosk, a ticket counter that can sell fare media for the various modes of transportation; a vending area; and public restrooms. The facility will accommodate bus bays, taxi staging, and parking. The feasibility study has been completed and the process has commenced for selecting a firm to conduct preliminary design services. FTA Section 5309 Bus and Bus Facilities Program VERNON INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION CENTER The primary purpose of the proposed Vernon Intermodal Transportation Center (VITC) is to co-locate multiple transportation modes in one central location in the downtown Rockville section of Vernon. The VITC is supposed to provide a viable, convenient, centrally-located terminus and transfer station for CTTransit local and express buses, Greater Hartford Transit District s ADA Paratransit and demand response services, local Dial-A-Ride Services (i.e. Hockanum Valley Community Council for Seniors), intercity bus, and taxis, with improved pedestrian and bicycle access. FTA Section 5309 Bus and Bus Facilities Program INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM The District is currently soliciting proposals from firms which provide Intelligent Transportation System solutions for paratransit operations. The District is seeking to improve the operational efficiency and cost effectiveness of its transit operations. It is the Districts intent to procure and implement a proven solution that easily integrates with the District s existing scheduling and dispatching software system and represents the current state of the art in transit management solution by exchanging vehicle location, manifests, trip changes, text messaging, and emergency notifications. FTA Section 5307 Urbanized Area Formula Grant Program CONGESTION MITIGATION AND AIR QUALITY The District is working with the City of Hartford in the implementation of a CMAQ grant for the implementation of a Bicycle Parking Facilities Program within the City of Hartford. The program consists of: identifying the locations which need bike parking; determining the type of bicycle parking needed at priority locations; obtaining agreements (formal or otherwise) from property owners; purchasing and installing the bicycle parking racks and lockers; publicizing the availability of the bicycle parking racks and lockers and documenting the use of the new bicycle parking equipment. The City provides the local match for this grant and will maintain the bicycle parking racks and lockers. Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program TRANSIT ENHACEMENT PROJECTS ROCKY HILL  The District is working with the City of Rocky Hill to use grant funds to purchase and install eight (8) bus shelters. The shelters serve existing CTTransit fixed route bus service at locations within the City of Rocky Hill selected due to high ridership and use. NEW BRITAIN - The District is working with the City of New Britain to use grant funds to purchase and install one bus shelters. The shelter serves existing CTTransit fixed route bus service within the City of New Britain. The site was selected due to high ridership and use. MANCHESTER - The District is working with the Town of Manchester to purchase and install six (6) bus shelters. The shelters will serve existing CTTransit fixed route bus service at locations within the Town of Manchester selected due to high ridership and use. FTA Section 5307 Urbanized Area Formula Grant Program. SAFETEA-LU stipulates that 1% of the region s Section 5307 allocation be use for Transit Enhancement projects. This means projects that are designed to enhance public transportation services or use and that are physically or functionally related to transit facilities UNION STATION TRANSPORTATION COMPLEX PROJECTS BOILER REPLACEMENT PROJECT  The District recently completed the replacement of Boiler #1 at Hartford s Union Station. This project was the first phase of the Heating Replacement Project. Currently the District is working with engineers for the preparation of the specifications needed for the replacement of the existing twenty five year old Boiler #2. This project includes supplying, delivering and installing a new steam boiler that can be operational for the 2009/2010 heating season. FTA Section 5307 Urbanized Area Formula Grant Program PARKING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM  The District just completed the installation of a new parking revenue control system solution for the District s Spruce Street Parking Lot.
